BREAKFAST radio host Alan Jones has signed a new five-year contract with Sydney station 2GB despite a cancer scare.
The contract, clinched between Macquarie Radio Network Ltd and Jones` company Belford Productions Pty Ltd, extends his existing contract with 2GB to June 30, 2013.
It outlines a new stock options regime but also, critically, no change to Jones` 5.30am - 10am breakfast radio show.
"The Term Sheet contemplates that Mr Jones will continue as 2GB`s breakfast shift program host during the extended life of the agreement," Belford Productions said.
Jones signalled last month that his days as Australia`s biggest name in early morning talkback radio could be numbered.
He returned to the airwaves on September 16 after a two-month break in which he underwent surgery for prostate cancer.
Jones then said his cancer was "gone", but the illness had forced him to reassess his life and workload.
"The 5.30 to 10 thing is most probably not something I`m going to be doing forever," he said from his Sydney studio.
But Jones also said he was "not a believer in retirement" and the "easiest part" of his day was what he did in the studio.
"It`s what`s waiting for me out there, my table now is just packed ... and all that charity stuff, everyone`s got a good cause, there`s no doubt about that. I might just say no a bit more often than I used to."
Jones has previously ruled out a move to the 10am shift currently occupied by Ray Hadley.
Jones was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a biopsy in May, but did not tell friends, family and colleagues of his condition until early July.
